A year of Japanese words, quiet thoughts, and original artwork.

This 2027 calendar was created as something more than a way to keep track of days.

Each month pairs an original artwork with a Japanese word, expression, or idea — some familiar in Japan, others rarely introduced outside the language.

Words such as 初心 (shoshin), the beginner’s mind.
晴耕雨読 (seikou udoku), a quiet way of living with the rhythm of the day.
おかげさま (okagesama), an expression of gratitude for all that has quietly supported us.
And 水に流す (mizu ni nagasu), the idea of letting what has passed flow away like water.

I chose these words because they carry something gentle with them.

A different way of seeing things.
A reminder to begin again.
To accept the day as it is.
To notice what supports us.
To let go of what no longer needs to be carried.

My hope is that, when you look at the calendar during an ordinary day, one of these small Japanese ideas might make your mind feel a little lighter.

Each of the twelve months has its own composition, imagery, Japanese expression, and accompanying English text. Together they form a quiet visual journey through the seasons of 2027.

This is both a functional monthly calendar and a collection of twelve artworks designed to live naturally in your space.

A NOTE ABOUT THE JAPANESE WORDS

Some Japanese expressions do not translate perfectly into a single English sentence.

Rather than treating them simply as vocabulary, this calendar explores the feeling and way of thinking behind each expression.

The English text accompanying each month is intended to gently communicate that meaning while preserving the atmosphere of the original Japanese.

DESIGNED IN JAPAN

Created by Wabi Sabi Kitchen as a contemporary interpretation of Japanese aesthetics, language, and everyday philosophy.

Not everything meaningful needs to be said loudly.
Sometimes a few words are enough.
