Bizen ware (備前焼) is one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions, characterized by its unglazed surface and natural kiln effects created through wood firing.
This vase is a one-of-a-kind piece by the artist Shunkōen. The tall cylindrical form gives it a modern presence, while the surface reveals organic firing patterns formed naturally in the kiln.
Subtle transitions of deep brown, ash-gray, and earthy tones create a quiet visual depth. The contrast between the smooth upper section and the textured lower area highlights the unpredictable beauty unique to Bizen ware.
Originally intended as a flower vase, it also works as a sculptural object, adding a calm and grounded atmosphere to a space.
