Bizen ware (備前焼) is one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions, valued for its natural textures and kiln-fired patterns created without glaze.
This mug is a one-of-a-kind piece by ceramic artist Seikan Kataoka. The soft clay body is marked by natural reddish firing patterns, formed organically during the wood-firing process.
The form is slightly tapered, fitting comfortably in the hand, while the handle is shaped with a subtle asymmetry that reflects the handmade nature of the piece.
It works beautifully as a daily-use mug, while also standing as a sculptural object that embodies wabi-sabi aesthetics.
