Description
A quiet, sculptural lantern inspired by the symbolism and beauty of traditional Japanese design.
This piece reinterprets the visual poetry of Japanese washi paper, transforming it into a gentle, ambient light. When illuminated, the vivid tones of the washi and its seasonal motifs softly emerge, creating a calm interplay of glow and shadow.
The Asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern has long represented straight, healthy growth and carries wishes for protection, well-being, and longevity. In this lantern, the artisan combines the Asanoha motif with diagonal latticework, forming a structure that feels both geometric and quietly sacred.
Each lantern is made through a meticulous multi-step process. The assembled form is carefully cut, reconstructed, and layered again to create depth within the interior. This layered structure allows the light to diffuse softly through the washi, producing a warm, refined atmosphere.
