Japanese Ceramic Teapot — Hakeme & Shinogi
By Mizuguchi (水口剋尚), Shomei Kiln
A distinctive Japanese studio pottery teapot featuring bold white brushwork and a sculptural arched handle.
Created by ceramic artist Mizuguchi of Shomei Kiln (勝明窯), this piece combines the expressive character of hakeme brushwork with shinogi, a traditional technique of carving or shaping the clay surface.
The cylindrical body is covered in contrasting layers of white and dark earthy tones, creating a richly textured, almost abstract composition.
Its integrated ceramic handle, short pouring spout, and fitted lid give the vessel a striking architectural silhouette.
Designed as a pouring vessel, it can be appreciated for serving tea or simply displayed as a sculptural ceramic object.
A compelling example of Japanese studio pottery, where practical form and artistic expression meet.
