Japanese Banko Ware Donabe Rice Cooker — 3 Cup

A beautifully rounded handmade Japanese donabe designed for cooking rice directly over a flame.

Made in Japan from heat-resistant ceramic clay, this rice pot has a softly rounded form designed to encourage natural circulation while the rice cooks. Its deep, dark brown surface features subtle variations in tone and texture, giving each piece its own quiet character.

Designed to cook up to 3 cups of rice, it is a practical size for everyday meals while remaining compact enough to bring directly from the kitchen to the table.

The heat-resistant clay contains petalite, a material used in heat-resistant ceramics to help the vessel withstand thermal expansion during cooking.

The pot can be used over direct flame, in the oven, and in the microwave, making it useful for more than rice alone.

Variations and unevenness in the surface color are an intentional characteristic of this pottery and part of its handmade appearance.

BEFORE FIRST USE — MEDOME

This donabe requires medome, a traditional seasoning process, before its first use.

1. Add lukewarm water to the pot with 2–3 tablespoons of potato starch or wheat flour and mix gently.
2. Heat over low heat.
3. Once the mixture reaches a boil, turn off the heat immediately and allow the pot to cool naturally.
4. Leave it overnight.
5. Wash thoroughly and allow the pot to dry completely before use.

CARE

After each use, wash promptly and wipe away excess moisture. Allow the pot to dry thoroughly before storing.

Because this is handmade ceramic cookware, natural variations in color, texture and surface appearance may occur. These variations are part of the character of each piece.
