This Japanese paulownia wood storage box is designed to keep your matcha essentials together while remaining beautiful enough to leave on display.
Its deep drawer can hold items such as a matcha bowl (chawan), bamboo whisk (chasen), tea scoop (chashaku), matcha tin, and other small tea utensils depending on their size.
Inspired by traditional Japanese kiri storage, the box combines the lightness and natural character of paulownia wood with a nostalgic black metal handle reminiscent of vintage Japanese tansu cabinetry.
Each piece is carefully made in Japan by a long-established paulownia box manufacturer.
**Why Paulownia Wood?**
Paulownia, known as *kiri* in Japan, has been used for generations for traditional chests, medicine boxes, and storage containers.
The wood naturally responds to changes in humidity, absorbing and releasing moisture as the surrounding environment changes. It is also traditionally valued for its resistance to insects and decay.
Lightweight, soft to the touch, and beautifully understated, kiri has long been chosen in Japan for storing items that deserve special care.
