Sekimori Ishi with Sacred Japanese Hemp

A handcrafted sekimori ishi made from a naturally weathered stone collected in Niigata, Japan, bound with rare Japanese sacred hemp (seima).

The warm pink and ivory tones of the stone create a gentle contrast with the pale hemp cord, giving this piece a soft and organic presence.

Sekimori ishi are traditional boundary stones used in Japanese tea gardens. Rather than using signs or words, they quietly indicate a threshold or a place not meant to be entered.

This piece carries that same quiet symbolism while functioning beautifully as a sculptural object for contemporary interiors.

The sacred hemp used here is exceptionally rare. Genuine Japanese seima is produced by only a handful of hemp farmers in Japan and has long been associated with Shinto traditions, purification rituals, and sacred spaces.

Placed on a shelf, in a meditation corner, tea room, or garden setting, it brings a subtle sense of stillness and intention.

About Sacred Hemp

For centuries, hemp has been used throughout Japan in Shinto rituals and sacred objects as a symbol of purity and protection.

Today, authentic Japanese seima is increasingly difficult to obtain and is produced by only a very limited number of growers.

Its natural texture and quiet beauty make it a meaningful complement to the traditional sekimori ishi form.
