Sekimori Ishi – Japanese Boundary Stone
A handcrafted sekimori ishi made with a natural stone from Niigata, Japan, bound with black shuro palm fiber rope.
Sekimori ishi are small boundary stones traditionally used in Japanese gardens and tea ceremony spaces. Placed along a path or near an entrance, they gently indicate that a space is closed, reserved, or not to be entered.
Rather than using a sign, sekimori ishi communicates through quiet presence. It is a subtle object of pause, threshold, and intention.
This piece combines the soft natural texture of Niigata stone with the raw, fibrous character of black shuro rope. The contrast between pale stone and dark rope gives it a sculptural presence while keeping the form minimal and grounded.
Beautiful for a Japanese garden, tea room, meditation corner, entryway, shelf display, or as a quiet wabi-sabi object for the home.
