Himekawa Yakuseki Sekimori Stone
Niigata, Japan — One of a Kind

A one-of-a-kind sekimori stone made from Himekawa Yakuseki, a natural stone from Niigata, Japan, and hand-tied with a deep brown silk cord.

This particular stone has a beautifully quiet surface.

Soft cream, beige and pale peach tones move across the stone in irregular natural patterns, interrupted by fine mineral lines and subtle variations in texture. Under changing light, these details become more visible, giving the stone an almost landscape-like appearance.

The dark brown silk cord creates a deliberate contrast with the pale stone. Its subtle sheen and fine texture add a refined element while allowing the natural character of the stone to remain the focus.

Sekimori-ishi, or boundary stones, are traditionally placed in Japanese gardens and tea gardens to quietly indicate that a path should not be entered. Rather than using a written sign, a stone tied with cord communicates the boundary through a simple visual gesture.

Today, the form can also be appreciated as a sculptural object in its own right.

Placed on a shelf, low table, entryway, beside ceramics, or within a quiet interior composition, it brings together natural material and a restrained Japanese form.

This is not a reproduced object. The shape, coloration and mineral patterns belong to this individual stone, and you will receive the exact piece shown in the photographs.
