Description
This handmade Shirokohiki (Kohiki) ceramic grater is a quiet, honest kitchen tool designed for everyday use. Crafted in Seto, Japan, it belongs to a long-running series loved for over 40 years. Shirokohiki ware is known for its soft, warm white surface and the gentle character it develops over time.
Unlike metal graters, ceramic is kinder to ingredients, helping preserve the natural aroma and texture of ginger, garlic, daikon, and wasabi.
This is not a tool meant to remain pristine. It is meant to be used, marked, and slowly grown through daily cooking.
About Shirokohiki
Shirokohiki surfaces naturally absorb moisture and oils. With continued use, subtle color changes may appear, including soft pinkish hues known as Gohonte. Small pinholes and iron spots are considered part of the ware’s natural character.
