Description
This Shirokohiki (Kohiki) ceramic mortar and pestle set is a quiet, honest kitchen tool designed for everyday use. Handcrafted in Seto, Japan, it belongs to a long-running series that has been used in Japanese homes for over 40 years. Shirokohiki ware is appreciated for its soft white surface, natural warmth, and the gentle character it develops over time.
The ceramic bowl enhances the aroma and texture of ingredients such as sesame seeds, sansho pepper, ginger, and garlic. The included natural wood pestle fits comfortably in the hand and complements the calm presence of the bowl.
This is not a tool meant to remain pristine. It is meant to be used daily and slowly grown through cooking.
About Shirokohiki
Shirokohiki clay naturally absorbs moisture and oils. With continued use, subtle color variations may appear, including soft pinkish hues known as Gohonte. Small pinholes and iron spots are considered part of the material’s character.
