The motif “Sagi-musume” (The Heron Maiden) is inspired by a celebrated Kabuki dance piece. It tells of a heron spirit appearing as a young woman, expressing quiet beauty, sorrow, and the emotional intensity of love. Each tenugui is dyed using the historic Chusen technique, where dye permeates the fabric rather than sitting on the surface.
