A sculptural cast iron bird ornament by Kamasada, the Japanese ironware workshop based in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture.
Designed by Shotaro Miya, the second-generation craftsman of Kamasada, this piece reflects a modern approach to traditional Nambu ironware, combining craftsmanship with refined, contemporary design.
Known as "Bird U," the ornament features a small, pointed beak and a beautifully curved tail that rises upward in one continuous, flowing gesture.
Its distinctive silhouette is both playful and elegant. The simplicity of the form allows the weight and texture of the cast iron to become part of its visual character.
Mounted on a natural wooden base, the bird stands as a small freestanding sculpture, bringing a quiet architectural presence to a shelf, console, or desk.
A thoughtful example of Japanese modernist design, where a few carefully considered lines create an expressive form.
