Sekimori-ishi (関守石) is a traditional stone marker used in Japanese gardens and tea gardens.
Historically, this small stone tied with rope was placed along garden paths to quietly indicate that one should not proceed further. Rather than a sign, it creates a subtle and poetic boundary within the space.
This piece is made from a natural stone sourced in Niigata, Japan, paired with an Edo-uchi cord. The fine braided cord adds a refined tension to the soft, rounded form of the stone.
The contrast between the dark, smooth surface and the structured knot creates a calm but grounded presence.
It works well as a sculptural object, a quiet marker in a room, or as part of a wabi-sabi interior.
