[AFTER SUMMER]

AFTER SUMMER is a collection within Silent Fragments.

These stones were picked up in the last weeks of heat, when the light begins to fall lower and the season quietly starts to turn.

Nothing has been cut, polished, or reshaped.

They were found as they are, chosen one by one, given names, and placed together in a box.

[The Stones in Box VI]

The largest stones in AFTER SUMMER.

Five distinct surfaces move from pale blue-green to cream, black and ochre — including one fragment whose material carries a much older history.

• 青磁 — Celadon
Pale blue-green across a chalky surface, with darker mineral traces showing through.

• 夕霞 — Evening Haze
Cream fades gradually into violet-grey across the lower half of the stone.

• 黒潮 — Black Current
Petrified wood, deep black and glossy, with pale traces of its grain still running through the surface.

• 月暈 — Moon Halo
Concentric rings of ochre spread across a warm cream surface.

• 空豆 — Bean
Blue-grey, kidney-shaped, with a fine chalky bloom across the surface.

Each piece is natural and one-of-a-kind. This exact arrangement will not be repeated.

[Living with Silent Fragments]

Keep the five together, or take them out one at a time.

Place the box on a shelf, a low table, or somewhere you pass every day. Open it occasionally. Hold one in your palm. Notice something you had not seen before.

They do not need to become anything else.

[The Box]

These five larger pieces rest in individual compartments inside a longer paulownia (kiri) wood box.

The box is wrapped with a washi band carrying traces of old Japanese script and tied with black cord.

The five pieces belong to this box as one set and are kept together.
