Sotaro Saegusa — Jomon-Inspired Ceramic Vessel
A sculptural Japanese ceramic vessel by Sotaro Saegusa (三枝惣太郎), inspired by a Late Jomon period pottery jar excavated from the Umamizuka archaeological site in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture.
Its rounded, generous body rises into a wide, gently flared opening. The dark surface shifts subtly between charcoal black and soft gray, emphasizing the vessel's simple yet powerful silhouette.
The form draws upon ancient Japanese pottery while maintaining a remarkably contemporary presence.
Displayed on a low table, shelf, or pedestal, it can be appreciated as a standalone sculptural object.
A beautiful meeting of archaeological inspiration and modern Japanese craftsmanship.
