This is an unused vintage Hida Takayama Shunkei-nuri two-tier lacquer box with handle, carefully stored over time.
The piece features the warm translucent amber-red finish characteristic of Hida Shunkei lacquerware, allowing the natural character and grain of the wood beneath the lacquer to remain visible. Its two-tier structure and elegant handle make it both functional and decorative.
As Shunkei lacquerware is designed to reveal the character of the natural wood, this particular piece shows a visible natural knot/grain line on the surface. This is part of the individual character of the wood rather than damage.
It can be used as a traditional jubako-style container, wagashi sweets box, tea ceremony accessory, small storage box, or decorative object for the home.
