This is a vintage Japanese bamboo hanakago, a traditional flower basket used for ikebana arrangements and tea ceremony settings.
The basket has a particularly distinctive sculptural form, with a broad, gently tapered body, a compact opening, and an exceptionally tall and delicate bamboo handle.
The body is tightly woven with subtle variations in the bamboo pattern, while the structural elements along the sides and base give the basket an architectural quality. Small wrapped details along the handle further emphasize the craftsmanship of the piece.
An inner liner is included, allowing flowers, grasses, or branches to be arranged inside.
Although traditionally made for ikebana, the strong silhouette also makes this a beautiful decorative object on its own, particularly in contemporary, minimalist, or wabi-sabi interiors.

The bamboo basket itself is in excellent vintage condition and has been very well preserved.
