The vessel has an unusual sculptural silhouette, combining sweeping curves with a strong upright geometric form. Carved linear decoration follows the shape of the piece, while the softly varied glaze emphasizes its architectural surface and handmade character.
Measuring 31.5 cm (12.4 in) across, it has a substantial presence without feeling heavy. Its asymmetrical form was designed for ikebana, allowing a single branch or a restrained arrangement to become part of the overall composition.
The piece is equally compelling when displayed without flowers and can be appreciated as a sculptural ceramic object in its own right.
Its abstract form works particularly well in wabi-sabi, modernist, mid-century, brutalist, and contemporary interiors.
