A vintage Japanese katatsuki chaire, a traditional ceramic tea caddy used to hold koicha (thick matcha) in the Japanese tea ceremony.

This piece has a classic shouldered form with a deep black to dark brown glaze. Warm amber-brown glaze flows naturally down the surface, creating an expressive and highly individual pattern across the vessel.

The chaire is accompanied by a traditional shifuku textile pouch. The dark blue fabric with warm orange-toned decoration creates a strong contrast with the restrained ceramic body.

Traditionally used as a formal tea utensil, the chaire and its shifuku can also be appreciated as a small ceramic and textile object outside of the tea setting.
