A vintage Japanese kogo dating approximately to the early Showa period, circa 1920s–1940s.

Traditionally used in the Japanese tea ceremony to hold incense, this small lidded ceramic container features a beautifully rounded form decorated with an intricate red and green floral pattern.

The decoration wraps around the entire form, creating a striking graphic composition when viewed from above or from the side. A painted mark can be found on the base.

The piece comes with its original wooden storage box. The inscription on the box remains unidentified, and the maker is unknown.

While originally created as a traditional incense container, its compact form and detailed decoration also make it a beautiful small object for display, a keepsake container, or part of a collection of Japanese ceramics.
