A charming vintage Konoha Monkey (Konohazaru) clay figurine from Kumamoto, Japan, featuring distinctive red, blue, and white painted details.
This traditional Japanese folk art object depicts a mother monkey holding a smaller monkey, a design known as Kodaki-zaru (Child-Holding Monkey).
Its beautifully simplified form, earthy clay surface, and expressive hand-painted decoration give the piece a striking sculptural presence.
Konoha Monkey figurines are traditional folk crafts originating in the Konoha area of Kumamoto Prefecture. Historically associated with protection from misfortune, the child-holding monkey is also regarded as a symbol of family happiness and prosperity.
The back bears a Japanese maker's mark reading "木の葉猿" (Konoha Monkey).
With its unusual proportions and colorful geometric details, this small sculpture makes a distinctive addition to a collection of Japanese folk art, vintage ceramics, or thoughtfully curated interiors.
