Vintage Japanese Square Ceramic Dobin Teapot

A striking vintage Japanese ceramic dobin teapot with an unusually slim, rectangular form.

Made from ceramic in a soft gray tone, this piece features a compact geometric body, a small fitted lid, and a tall rattan-wrapped handle.

The restrained surface and almost architectural proportions give the vessel a distinctly modern presence despite its traditional connection to Japanese tea culture.

SQUARE DOBIN FORM

Unlike the rounded form commonly associated with Japanese teapots, this dobin is constructed as a narrow rectangular vessel.

At approximately 4 cm / 1.57 in deep, the body has an exceptionally slim profile.

Viewed from the front, it appears almost like a small ceramic panel, while from the side its narrow construction becomes particularly apparent.

A small projecting spout extends from the upper side of the vessel.

RATTAN-WRAPPED HANDLE

The tall handle is wrapped in rattan, introducing a warm natural texture against the cool gray ceramic body.

The contrast between ceramic, metal fittings, and the wrapped handle is one of the most distinctive visual characteristics of the piece.
