Jinnai Sakata — Black Mashiko Katakuchi Bowl
A Japanese ceramic katakuchi bowl by Jinnai Sakata, associated with Mashiko pottery.
The vessel has a broad, open form with a subtly extended pouring lip and a compact foot. Its dark, almost charcoal-black surface reveals the natural texture of the clay, with fine irregularities and variations that give the piece a quiet, earthy character.
The thickened rim and gently stepped exterior create a strong horizontal silhouette, balancing the rustic surface with a carefully considered form.
Katakuchi vessels are traditionally made with a pouring lip, but their use need not be limited to pouring. This bowl can also be appreciated as a small serving vessel or as a sculptural object on an open shelf.
Its restrained form pairs naturally with stone, wood, linen, and contemporary minimalist interiors.
