Sotaro Saegusa — Japanese Cast Iron Dog Sculpture
A sculptural dog figure by Japanese artist Sotaro Saegusa (三枝惣太郎), known for his work in sculpture and metal art.
With its simplified silhouette, angular legs, pointed ears, and distinctive curled tail, the figure balances playful animal imagery with a strong modernist sensibility.
Its richly varied surface combines muted green, deep brown, and reddish tones, creating the appearance of aged bronze with a verdigris-style finish.
The open arch beneath the body and the circular form of the tail give this piece a particularly striking profile.
In the Japanese zodiac, the dog (Inu) is associated with loyalty, protection, and good fortune. Traditionally displayed as a zodiac ornament, this work can also be appreciated as a standalone sculptural object.
At approximately 19 cm in both length and height, it has a substantial presence suitable for a console, shelf, or gallery-style interior.
